Awaken your Energy Body

There are many approaches to the teaching of yoga. My approach is grounded in mindfulness.  Mindfulness connects you deeply to all the dimensions of your own actual experience — this has a healing power, and lays the foundation for powerful and transformative growth.
My classes integrate a continuous, slowly-paced and intentionally challenging flow of postures with the exploration of Being-in-poses. I call this continuity of focus Mindful Flow, and it is the ground and orientation for most of what I share in my yoga classes.
I work to provide a supportive and light-hearted atmosphere where students are encouraged to start where they are and learn to explore the harmonics of postural alignment and the embodied and alive connection between body, breath and mind.
In every posture we mindfully “play the edge” while both respecting and challenging the possibility of moving beyond physical and mental barriers.

In my own practice and in my teaching, I work to integrate the insights I have realized from many diverse elements of study into a Yoga Practice that creates a flexible, balanced body and a focused, peaceful mind, and an open-hearted engagement with life’s challenges and wonder

I design my classes with experienced beginners and intermediate level students in mind.  Many beginners are doing fine as well. Modifications and variations are given to accommodate students of all levels and all sincere students are welcomed.

I offer Personal Pathways to individuals who’s dedication, interests or needs are not completely met by the group class format.  For those interested in learning more about the sequences I assemble each month, browse to Learning Sequences.

Mindful Flow Yoga is a meditation in motion – a practice of discovery – born of being present with what unfolds in the present moment.
Marianne guides students through a carefully designed sequence of yoga postures, at a measured pace and with fluid transitions, linking intentional breath with conscious movement. Posture by posture, breath by breath, moment by moment – you will be encouraged to build safe body alignment, to cultivate greater sensitivity to body sensations, and to use the breath to stay present and develop a deeper focus and increased self awareness.  Turning within, we can clearly see and explore the conditioned and habitual tendencies held within body, breath and mind.

Marianne creates a new sequence each month, designed to build fluid transitioning between asanas, to develop greater breath capacity and to build a balance of effort and ease, transforming once-difficult postures into a fluid and continuous dance.

Such a practice cultivates mindfulness with an open awareness and responsive quality available at any given moment. With clear intention we are choosing our attitude for the practice, one breath at a time. By choosing a positive mindset we give the mind a positive direction along the path. Practicing in a state of deep focus and awareness, we will begin to experience and rest more fully in a deeper stillness.
The practice is intentionally challenging.

Mindful Flow and Yin blends Mindful Flow and restorative Yin yoga into a balanced practice designed to replenish, accessible for students of all levels and ideal for evening classes. We start with a slower-paced and shorter Mindful Flow sequence, moving from pose to pose by linking intentional breath with conscious movement, to develop core strength, muscle tone, balance and stamina.

We finish the last third of the class with passive, floor-based yin poses, held in a relaxed and mindful way for several minutes. This approach promotes increased circulation along the energetic pathways, enhances range of motion throughout the body, “winds down” and replenishes the parasympathetic nervous system to nourish stillness and rest.
